Metal allergy

With superior wear resistance and a preserved sense of metal's substantial weight...
ReST-M2 is a new anti-allergy coating for brass instrument mouthpieces.
Features
❖ Excellent abrasion resistance
The processing is done in the same way as for automobile and medical parts, and the material is more abrasion resistant than the lacquer normally applied to brass instrument bodies.
❖ Expected to be effective against metal allergies
The black parts are not metal but resin, so they may be effective against metal allergies.
❖ Can be handled just like metal
Plastic rims made to order by manufacturers are sometimes said to have slightly different shapes and sounds. This product forms a resin film directly onto the metal mouthpiece, so it can be handled in the same way.
❖ Excellent cost performance
It is cheaper than any other conventional method, and costs for metal allergy-resistant processing can be reduced by 50-75%. Because we use a versatile large-scale fully automated line, we are able to provide it at a reasonable price that is affordable for everyone.
❖ You can customize your mouthpiece to your liking
ReST-M2 can be processed on the rim of your mouthpiece.
We can also process them into new products, so please contact us (made to order).
❖ Compatible with all brass instruments
It can be processed into mouthpieces for all brass instruments, including trumpets, cornets , flugelhorns, trombones, French horns, euphoniums, tubas, tenor horns, and baritones.
❖ Metal allergy advisors will assist you
We will be directly liaising with the first Metal Allergy Association member in the music industry , who is also a certified Metal Allergy Advisor . Please feel free to contact us with any concerns you may have while playing.
◆We have started selling "Protect J1", a skin protection cream that prevents problems while playing!
Please consider this as well. → Protect J1 Shop Page
▶We also accept consultations regarding concerns related to metal allergies while playing.

Have you ever had discomfort due to itching or rashes while playing?
"I feel like I'm getting tired faster. My face gets swollen after blowing..."
Perhaps you have a metal allergy? ReST-M2 is a new processing technology developed to allow people with metal allergies to play with peace of mind.
We can process mouthpieces with any metal plating, including gold, silver, and platinum.
We can also process mouthpieces with exposed base metal.
Yes, we can.
Continuing to use it while the surface is rough is not good for your body.
Please try ReST-M2.
It is processed using a technique called electrochemical painting, which makes it more abrasion-resistant than the clear lacquer that is usually applied to the bodies of brass instruments.
Because it is painted evenly, it is slightly smoother than silver plating and has a smooth feel in the mouth like gold plating.
The film thickness is approximately 10μ, which is slightly thicker than plating, so you can use it without worrying about changes in the inner diameter.
Unlike two-piece types which have a resin rim, the mouthpiece is made entirely on the surface of a metal mouthpiece, so there are no problems with resin rims such as no resonance or different sound quality.
Polishing is kept to a minimum, only removing the oxide and sulfide coatings.
About the trial
We are currently exhibiting samples of processed mouthpieces at Hattori Wind Instruments Nishi Sugamo , Okubo Wind Instruments, and Yukikusa Instruments . You can also try them out, so please consider it.
UPMAKE also offers sample trial by mail for those who live far away.
Please feel free to contact us.
We ask that you cover the maintenance fee of 1,000 yen per week plus the round-trip shipping costs.
About masking
When we receive a request for ReST-M2 processing, we will ask whether or not masking is required.
The resin coating itself is very thin, but it does not have absolutely no effect on the sound (in reality, very few people will notice any difference in the sound).
After processing, the appearance becomes a smooth black, so some people who don't want it to stand out too much may want to mask it.
In order to keep the processed surface area as small as possible and to avoid compromising allergy resistance , most people prefer to only process the rim and cup, and leave the rest of the product masked (③ in the figure below) .
If you want to process up to this line, or if you want to process only the rim, please feel free to contact us.
The figure below illustrates some examples of masking that have been used so far.

Plating and skin protection cream
Please also see our plating page.
We also offer other plating methods such as ferric gold plating, which is popular among people with allergies, rhodium plating, which has a cool, slightly dark silver color, and cute pink gold plating. Please take a look.

Important Notice
Resin coating does not completely prevent metal allergies. Allergies may occur if the instrument comes into contact with an uncoated instrument. It is not effective in treating allergies.
ReST-M2 is a coating intended for people with metal allergies, and people with allergies to resins may experience symptoms.
Although it is more abrasion resistant than the paint normally used on musical instruments , the coating may come off and expose the bare metal if it is polished with an abrasive or intentionally rubbed against a hard metal. In that case, the anti-allergic properties will be lost .
Please use water and neutral detergent for cleaning. Avoid using organic solvents, alcohol, acidic or alkaline detergents.
Please avoid scrubbing the mouthpiece with a hard brush, etc. This may cause the coating to peel off. Please handle with care using a cotton swab or soft tissue paper.
We have created samples of mouthpieces that are generally available in the market , and have confirmed that they do not peel off in a short period of time under normal use, but please note that the above test results may not necessarily apply depending on the material and condition. (Samples are created for trumpet, trombone, French horn, and tuba mouthpieces.)
We cannot offer refunds if the coating does not adhere due to a defect, or if the coating is defective due to an accident or defect during processing or peeling. We also cannot offer refunds if the item we have received is damaged or becomes unusable. Regardless of the reason, we will charge the actual cost for peeling and reprocessing.
During processing, a jig is attached to the backbore to hold the part in place. The paint will not stick to the parts that are in contact with the jig. Also, there is a possibility that roughness may occur. Thank you for your understanding.
Oil and impurities in the solution may cause defects such as repelling and bumps. After processing, UPMAKE inspects the product, and if there are no defects on the rim or the part that touches the lip inside the cup and it is deemed that there is no problem with use, it will be returned as a good product. Thank you for your understanding.
If an item is found to be defective during inspection, it will be reprocessed before being returned. In that case, it may take additional days for delivery.
Although UPMAKE tests the resins used, UPMAKE shall not be held responsible for any metal allergies or other abnormalities that may occur during use. (Test method: Thirty subjects who develop allergic symptoms when using commercially available brass mouthpieces with a silver-plated finish were asked to use a prototype with ReST-M2 processing for one month. No one experienced redness, peeling, or itching during the test period .)
All shipping charges will be borne by the customer unless they are not covered by UPMAKE's services.
Processing will be done after payment is confirmed. Please note that if payment cannot be confirmed after shipping, we will not be able to deliver the processed product.
Please make sure to confirm and decide on the masking parts between the customer and the person in charge before processing. We cannot offer refunds if the processed product is different from what you expected after delivery.
There may be small scratches that occur during processing.
Please be sure to use a traceable and insured service (such as Takkyubin Compact). UPMAKE cannot provide compensation for any accidents during transportation under any circumstances. Please let us know the tracking number after shipping.
By making a request, you are deemed to have understood and agreed to all of the above precautions .
